“Foothill Family’s elder care program helps to protect, heal, and empower a population that is sometimes overlooked,” said Foothill Family Chief Executive Officer Steve Allen. “As the baby boomer generation continues to age and the senior population grows, it is imperative that programs such as Elder Abuse Prevention are available to support those in the community who are marginalized and vulnerable.”
Individuals over the age of 65 are the fastest growing demographic in the country and meeting their needs in the area of health, mental health, and social services is on an upward trend. However, elderly victims who are physically, emotionally, and financially abused are being denied access to support services, personal care, and legal advocacy. Some of the reasons victims of elder abuse are not receiving these types of services is due to the social stigma of being abused, submitting to the power and control of caregivers, language barriers, and health limitations.

“Our commitment to create great career experiences for our direct-care staff has resulted in a $70,000 grant from the national Home Instead Foundation to support nearby organizations that focus on programs and services for older adults and Foothill Family Services is one of them ,” said Sanchez. “We plan to continue providing fulfilling career opportunities that in turn will help older adults age safely and gracefully at home.”
