Early Childhood Development

Research continues to show that a child’s brain develops fastest during the first five years of life. What happens – and doesn’t happen – in the pre-natal and earliest years of crucial development will have long-term implications for each child’s future. The love of a parent or caregiver, a nurturing environment, and positive human interaction are fundamental to a child’s physical growth, social and emotional development, and intellectual and mental health.

Foothill Family offers an array of services to support parents and their children from pre-natal stages to age five. From parent education and home-visits during pregnancy, from developmental assessments and child care partnerships, Foothill Family’s 0-5 programs can help you and your baby grow together!

Healthy Families America

Healthy Families America at Foothill Family is focused on promoting family connections, preventing child-abuse, and supporting the well-being of children so they grow up healthy, safe and ready for school. Supporting quality interaction between children and parents has measurable impacts on brain function, social-emotional development, and the child’s potential for future learning

Early Head Start

Foothill Family Early Head Start partners with parents in promoting the healthy development of their infants and toddlers. Services include educational curriculum, nutrition and health services, behavior and social emotional support, developmental screenings, individualization for children with special needs, and support for families. Offering weekly home visits with our trained child development specialists or child care services in community settings, the program supports pregnant women and families with infants or toddlers up to age four who live or work in Alhambra, Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, La Puente, Pomona, Rosemead, South El Monte, and West Covina.

First Connections

An early intervention program for children with developmental delays, First Connections provides developmental screenings for children from birth to age five. While children develop at different rates and in different ways, there are specific milestones that children should reach at marked stages of growth and progression in play, speech, behavior, and interaction. The program also provides psychological testing, parent workshops, and linkages and resources for supportive services.

Early Esteem

Our specially trained therapists provide early intervention and mental health services to children up to age 5 and their families who are exhibiting developmental delays, behavioral, or mental health challenges. Services are provided in homes, at preschools, and at our family centers. A treatment plan is designed to meet each child’s specific needs and may include play therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, family therapy or other unique interventions for the 0-5 child.
